  • EXAMPLE 1

Client Situation:  Client had a clear and stable mission but needed to update their strategic plan. They wanted a process that would engage staff, as well as their state appointed governing board.

Lanterna Results:

  • Lanterna designed and delivered a streamlined strategic planning process that affirmed the organization’s mission and developed a new value statement, as well as strategic areas of impact and direction statements to focus the organization’s work for the next 2-3 years. 
  • The consultant assisted in the development of surveys for staff and key partners resulting in high levels of engagement and input into the strategic planning process.
  • Lanterna worked closely with the internal organizational development manager to build sustainable capacity for plan implementation.
  • EXAMPLE 2

Client Situation: A new executive leader wanted to use a federally required strategic plan as an opportunity to create a new vision and a new executive team for the organization.

Lanterna Results:

  • Lanterna facilitated the division’s strategic planning necessary to secure federal funding while simultaneously assisting client in the formation and development of a new strategic leadership team. 
  • Client has continued to utilize Lanterna to assist the leadership team in ongoing monitoring and updates to the strategic framework guiding the division’s work.

Client Situation: The client was a century-old organization with a proud history going through difficult times. A new leader was brought in to identify and introduce significant changes where deep cultural traditions were limiting the ability to adapt to current challenges and trends.   

Lanterna Results:

  • Lanterna worked closely with the client to form and facilitate an internal cross-divisional project team and external stakeholder advisory committee to conduct a comprehensive strategic assessment and develop strategies to better position the organization for the future. 
  • The consultant assisted in the development of extensive internal and external communications to support the strategic planning and change management.
  • The client prioritized the resulting top strategies necessary to revitalize the organization and systematically rebuilt important infrastructure to regain their previous focus and strength. 

  • EXAMPLE 4

Client Situation: A state-wide collaboration of three state and federal entities requested help creating a system framework to organize and activate sustainable forest management for diverse and healthy family-owned forests in Minnesota.

Lanterna Results:

  • Lanterna designed, facilitated, and documented the work of a committee tasked with producing a report and recommendations for a system framework.
  • The planning process engaged multiple stakeholder groups and partner organizations with potentially competing interests in an atmosphere of shared purpose, collaboration, and trust to arrive at a framework
  • All three of the co-sponsoring entities signed off on the final report and the recommendations created by the project team. The resulting system plan was approved and enacted.
